Our 4IRC Programme Manager Jessica Caldwell recently visited San Francisco to attend the Startup World Cup 2018 where the brightest minds globally come together to pitch their ground-breaking innovations. The trip would not have been possible without the financial assistance of Ulster University, Belfast City Council and Invest NI.
Belfast-based company Modius Health were one of the innovations chosen to pitch at the Startup World Cup Final after winning the Northern Ireland Regionals. The overall winner of the Startup World Cup was Leuko Labs, from Boston’s MIT who have developed a non-invasive device to monitor the immune system and improve chemotherapy.
During her trip, Jess met NI native Danny Wallace of PwC San Francisco and some of his colleagues who shared their insights into investment and Venture Capital culture in the San Francisco region. Jess and the NI delegation also visited Ntropic, who shared their latest piece of work in Virtual Reality and even some industry secrets.
The delegation then went on to spend time at the World Economic Forum’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution where they gained an insight into key research areas at their stunning location at Presidio Park. They also met with some other Global Shapers to discuss the global impact young people can have in tech, innovation, healthcare and community spaces.
An incredible trip – well done to Jess on making it a reality and bringing back her learnings to Northern Ireland!
